Advertisement in the newspaper: This winter in the Ziggo Dome: New Year’s Concert: January 7, 2017. "For years my wife Marjorie and I played with the idea to give a special New Year's concert in the Netherlands. But I was always on tour abroad”. Rieu has changed his plans and intends to start each year with a New Year's concert in Amsterdam. A new tradition is born!

Posted August 2016: Another Golden Oldie from 1995, sent to us by Marc Rieu: Angela’s Challenge. Angela Groothuizen accepted a TV Challenge to have a bikers tunnel built in one day, in a Limburg town near Maastricht. André Rieu was taking a bath when Angela called him to invite him to open the tunnel. Click on the picture.

On Thursday July 14, 2016, Laura Engel performed a solo concert titled: "Laura, a life in song". Venue: the Open Air Theatre of Valkenburg! It was a show with a big variety of songs, from Latin to classical to musicals, and everything in between. Laura was accompanied in this new adventure by the band 'The Latin Breeze'. On June 26, 2016, the Lift-Off percussion and entertainment group of the Falize family performed a great concert in Heerlen, Limburg: “Dreaming the globe in 80 beats”. New and refreshing was the combination of world music and the lyrics by comedian Raymond Clement with Marcel’s personal anecdotes of traveling the world with the JSO. Click on the picture.

December 17, 2016. From André Rieu’s official website. Important announcement. Dear fans, It is with great regret that André Rieu has to postpone tonight's Nottingham concert due to a member of the Johann Strauss Orchestra having a heart attack this morning.The musician has been taken to hospital but unfortunately his condition remains critical. We are deeply saddened and thank you for your understanding in this difficult moment. Our heartfelt feelings are with our colleague and his family.

Update Dec.18: André Rieu cancels all concerts of the British tour. “We are all together waiting for him to wake up. Everyone is too upset to continue playing”. Click HERE to read an article from the Limburg Paper in the Harmony Parlor.

Update Dec. 20: André is totally devastated. Ruud and his family will return home tomorrow to a Maastricht hospital. Unfortunately the doctors have little or no hope he will wake-up again… Click on the picture to watch a short video broadcast by the Dutch program ‘Shownieuws’ on December 19.

December 22, 2016. In Memoriam: Ruud Merx On December 17, 2016, during the tour of André Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra through Ireland and the United Kingdom, his trombone player Ruud Merx (47) was struck by a severe heart attack in his sleep at night. Immediately he was hospitalized in Leeds. The maestro and the members of the Johann Strauss Orchestra were devastated and could not perform anymore. Ruud did not wake up from his coma and André canceled the remaining 6 concerts of the tour. André had the family flown in and later on he had them flown back with Ruud to Maastricht. The fans were also upset, posted comments and a thread of Candles of Hope on Facebook. Today, December 22, we received the sad message that Ruud passed away in the Maastricht hospital. Our sincere condolences go to Lin, Oscar, Lisa and the family. Also to André Rieu and the orchestra for their devastating loss. Farewell Ruud, you will be missed!! Rest in Peace.
