Interview with André Rieu
André Rieu: "I promise you, you will go home on a cloud and it will take you two weeks to come down to
earth."
How did you choose the set list?
AR: "That was easy because I wanted to put Maastricht on the map. So there are a lot of pieces and also
words from in my text that uh that brings you to Maastricht."
What is the process of picking a soloist and a special guest?
AR: "Because it was the 20th edition. I was thinking the whole year together with Marjorie, my wife, what
shall we bring this year to make it very special? And when you see the result, you will agree with me that it
was very special."
Do you get nervous when your concerts are being filmed?
AR: "No, not at all. I know that it's there and we know our stuff and of course, our cameras and my
orchestra, they all know that they we film. So it's very natural. We are used to that. Every concert where we
are on tour there are cameras and us. So no, we are not more nervous but we are, of course, must be
perfect and that is I hope you can see."
Is there any difference between watching live versus watching in the cinema?
AR: "There's no big difference. You really see at the cinema now what you see on tour when you would
come to a concert. The same musicians. The same music. The same soloists. That is what people like so
much when they go to the cinema wherever in the world they say: 'Ah, that's the same orchestra. It's really
André with his orchestra and that makes it very near."
How does it feel to have the 20th anniversary concert in your hometown?
AR: "Oh, that's fantastic. That's really such a good feeling. You know, we travel the whole world. We go to
Helsinki, we go to Malaga, we go to Aberdeen, we go to London, we go to Bahrain. And now in Maastricht,
all these people come to my hometown. And that gives me such a beautiful feeling."
It's Cineworld’s 30th anniversary. Do you have any tips on how to celebrate in style?
AR: "Celebrate in style. I would say go on because you are doing a marvelous job."
Do you have a message for fans going to see your concert at their local Cineworld?
AR: "So I can promise you, when you go to the cinema and you look at my special, I promise you you will
go home on a cloud and it will take you two weeks to come down to earth. It was a pleasure to talk to you.
Good luck."
