Translation by Ineke/Diana. AR: "Actually, I am Christmas-crazy." Sh.n: "André Rieu is preparing a wonderful Christmas concert again for 2026." AR: "We have to rehearse and prepare a lot, to make all the ideas in my head a reality. We are going to present a completely new waltz. Normally, we do Viennese waltzes, but this year Marjorie said: 'Let’s do something different, let’s do the English waltz.' My repertoire contains a wonderful English waltz: 'Fascination.'” Sh.n: "The world-famous conductor and violinist will present a new sound that we don’t know yet." AR: "There will also be 350 bagpipe players. A bagpipe produces the ugliest sound in the world, but at the same time it is a very emotional." Sh.n: "Today, he rehearsed with the children’s choir." AR: "Ah, they sing so beautiful! 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen." Sh.n. "André seems to be very strict to his young nightingales." AR: "Yes, seriously. I am very strict, but kindly strict, of course." Sh.n: "André Rieu knows, as a grandfather of 5, how to deal with children, and he may welcome a 6th one soon. "You could start an entire new orchestra with your grandchildren. When do you expect the 6th?" AR: "In December." Sh.n: "So, a new Christmas child!" AR: "Yes, yes."
Sharing an August 26, 2026 article from L1 Nieuws. Jo Cortenraedt, translated by Diana D. Le. André Rieu already practices with children's choir for Christmas concerts The series of heat waves is hardly over, but André Rieu is already working on his Christmas concerts, which are on the agenda in December in MECC Maastricht. With this year, a specially formed children's choir that will perform a number of Christmas carols. Call A number of them responded to a recent call from Rieu to sign up and that has resulted in the necessary responses. In the studio of the Maastricht orchestra leader, several dozen children came by for a first rehearsal. Early preparations The Johann Strauss Orchestra is still on holiday, but with a pianist music could already be made. "It seems long before Christmas is," says André Rieu. "But from September, we are busy with tours all over Europe, so it is so convenient to start with the preparations now. I already have the whole program in my head.” Less music lessons The young singers come from existing choirs from Wijlre and Weert and are accompanied by choir conductor Ghislaine Mommer. "Now that less and less music is taught in the schools, it is all the more important to encourage the children to sing or play an instrument. The children want to, especially when they hear that they can be on stage with André Rieu.” More children Every evening, at least thirty children will be on stage in the MECC. "But for that, we need more children," says Rieu. "Because otherwise the Labour Inspectorate will get angry again. So we make sure we have at least a double occupancy, and then everyone comes up.”

Sharing an October 14, 2026 article from L1 Nieuws, by Michon Leenders, translated by Diana. A special birthday gift for Julia Klerks (13): her first time singing in the André Rieu Children's Choir Julia Klerks, a 13-year-old from Nederweert (a municipality in the province of Limburg), celebrated her birthday on Tuesday in a very special way: she got to sing in a large children’s choir with André Rieu. At the Maastricht-based musician’s studio, she rehearsed for the first time for the Christmas concerts scheduled for December. Did she find it nerve-wracking to rehearse with the world-famous conductor for the first time? Not at all, according to Jet, who was celebrating her birthday. She just really enjoyed it. Practicing on the bus “We also practiced the songs for a bit on the bus on the way there today,” says the brand-new 13-year-old. Along with dozens of other children, including three classmates, she rehearsed on Tuesday for Rieu’s Christmas concert series. It’s a lot of fun, says the young girl from Nederweert. It was the first time they had gathered with this group to rehearse with Rieu: during the summer, it had already been another delegation from the children's choir's turn. Wiping Away a Tear Rieu, 77, is pleased with the rehearsal. “It went fantastically. It’s the first time they’ve been together and practiced with a band. It was really classy.” He even says he almost had to wipe away a tear at times when he heard the children’s voices. “I have to hold it in for a moment, like an old grandpa,” Rieu laughs. He hopes that visitors will go home with the same feeling in December. “That's always the goal with my concerts—I want to move people. Well, if that doesn't work, then I don't know what will!” No worries Julia also thought the rehearsal went well. She sings and performs quite often: just last weekend, she and her youth choir, Equal Voices, won the choir competition in Weert in their category. In any case, she isn’t worried about the performances in December, when she’ll be singing with the rest of the children’s choir for tens of thousands of guests at the MECC in Maastricht. She’s really looking forward to it: “I think it’s cool and fun,” she says. “My grandma and my mom are coming to watch, too.” Last Song After rehearsal on Tuesday afternoon, the pianist plays one more song: this time, not a Christmas carol, but a birthday song. The rest of the choir sings “Happy Birthday” at the top of their lungs, and afterward, the birthday girl receives congratulations from choir director Ghislaine Mommer. Julia has never had a birthday like this before. (Julia Klerks from Nederweert got to rehearse with André Rieu for the first time on her birthday, October 13, 2026. Photo by Orange Media).

October 13, 2026, Shownieuws. Interview by Thom Goderie. André Rieu possible for sixth time grandpa during Christmas concerts André Rieu can soon become a grandfather for the sixth time! The little one could just be born during one of his Christmas concerts. Reporter Thom Goderie traveled to Maastricht to experience the rehearsals for his coming Christmas concerts in his studio, and asks the violinist what he would do in case the baby is born during one of his Christmas concerts.
Video Shownieuws, duration 3:37 min. in Dutch language. Picture: Tooske Ragas, presenter and Mart Hoogkamer, singer.
Summarized text by Ineke. Tooske Ragas, presenter of Shownieuws this night: André Rieu has a keen eye for discovering young talent. We sent Thom Goderie to Maastricht to ask him some questions. TG: Have you heard of Mart Hoogkamer (winner of the program Best Singers)? Did you see his appearance on a TV talk show? He might be a suitable guest for your shows. AR: That’s a possibility; but I’ll have a listen to him first. My concert schedule is already full for this year. TG: You mentioned recently that you wanted to invite Marco Borsato. AR: Oh, right—since he indicated he didn’t want to perform during the first year, I hadn’t thought about it again, but I will ask him. TG: How are the children in this choir doing? They sing so beautifully; it brings tears to my eyes. Tooske Ragas: André Rieu is known for always having everything perfectly under control—except for one thing: the timing of the birth of his sixth grandchild. TG: It could very well happen during one of your six Christmas concerts. Yes, that’s possible. But I certainly hope they don’t tell me while I’m performing—I’d prefer to hear about it afterwards.
