Sharing an excerpt from the 4th edition of 2026 Navenant Magazine, the Limburg lifestyle magazine. Jon van Eerd in conversation with Pierre Rieu Navenant Magazine photo: ARP, Jon van Eerd (FB Profile photo) Translation by Diana D. Le Jon van Eerd, writer, actor, life artist, and above all a Maastricht citizen at heart, talks to Pierre Rieu in this edition of Navenant. Two Maastrichtians, each with their own story, yet with a surprising number of similarities. They speak candidly about youth, family, friendship, entrepreneurship, and career, about what shaped them and how they found their own way. A personal conversation, in which vulnerability and emotion go hand in hand with humor and a good dose of Limburg stubbornness. JON: "Ha, Pierre. Wait a minute I'll take you upstairs." PIERRE: "We just met for two minutes and I'm already going upstairs with you." JON: "HA HA HA. To my office. Then we can talk undisturbed. You're on vacation. I'm so glad you wanted to talk to me. I am also a Maastricht citizen at heart. I was even in the same class as your aunt at St. Jozef School." PIERRE: "Next to the mill where my grandparents lived." JON: "Yes, that was a household name in Maastricht. I read that you dropped out of college to go to work for your father. What did you study?" PIERRE: "Law. Here in Maastricht. But I soon found out it wasn't my thing. I'm not someone who can get his knowledge out of books. I have to hang out with people. Learn from them. I look at role models and let myself be inspired." JON: "That goes for everything and everyone." PIERRE: "I don’t copy others, but I do observe them and then think about how I’d like to do it myself. I adapt it to something that suits me. Everyone has to do that for themselves." JON: "Can you let go of that, too? As a parent?" PIERRE: "We raise our children so they can find their own way. So that later, when they’re grown up, they can chart their own course." JON: "Was that possible in your upbringing with your father, too? Or was he rather domineering?" PIERRE: "'Domineering' isn't quite the right word. A friend of mine once described him as “affectionately authoritarian.” You see, he's the one who arranges the seating and the itinerary on vacation. But he does it in a way that he believes is best for the group. And he's almost always right about that."

Pierre Rieu Speaks Out for the First Time About Sexual Abuse by a Woman Painful Memory Pierre Rieu (45), the son of André Rieu (77), shares a painful experience from his childhood. In an interview with actor Jon van Eerd (66) in Navenant Magazine, he reveals that he was sexually abused by a woman at the age of sixteen. He also discusses how that event has influenced the way he views himself and others. During the conversation, Jon remarks that Pierre is a very caring person. Pierre recognizes this right away. He explains that this trait has sometimes gotten in his way in the past. “But I’ve worked through that with the help of therapy,” he says. Still, his tendency to try to please others remains a vulnerable spot. “I’m a huge people pleaser,” he says. Pierre then shares a traumatic experience from his childhood. “When I was sixteen, I was sexually abused by a woman, but I partly brought it on myself.” Pierre reflects on the way he behaved toward the woman at the time. “I gave her a lot of warmth and trust. And I radiated—I realize now—a certain hunger. And she wanted to satisfy it.” Still, he emphasizes that the responsibility for the abuse does not lie with him. “I’ve always been someone who wants to bring joy, seeks connection, and wants to break the ice. It’s in my nature, but let’s be clear: the abuser is always in the wrong.” Fortunately, he was able to count on his parents’ support back then. “They’ve always given me unconditional support and love,” he says. “If you’re able to experience that as a child, it’s the greatest treasure. And the fact that they managed to do that despite their own childhood experiences is indescribably admirable and beautiful.” Pierre previously mentioned that he had gone through quite a few therapists because he was living under the weight of his father's dreams.*

Sharing a November 3, 2026 news segment from Shownieuws, a related video to the November 3, 2026 article from RTL* (on Pierre Rieu page 7), and the October 22, 2026 article from Navanant Magazine**. Transcription and translation by Ineke Cornelissen, edited by Diana D. Le. Pierre Rieu emotional about past sexual abuse Shownieuws presenter Dyantha Brooks: "Welcome back to Shownieuws. An intense interview with Pierre Rieu." Media reporter Jordi Versteegden: "Yes, published in Navenant, a Limburg lifestyle magazine. "We see a side of Pierre that we don’t often witness; we usually know him as the tough man behind his father’s multi-million-euro enterprise—but it turns out he has experienced something traumatic in his private life. "He reveals this in a conversation with Jon van Eerd, an actor who also hails from Limburg. The topic of sexual abuse comes up, and it emerges that both men have been affected by it—Pierre as early as the age of 16. We spoke with him, and it’s clear that it still deeply affects him today." Pierre Rieu: "It happened in a very familiar setting. That trust—and the sense of safety you feel within a friendship—was literally exploited, and in an instant, everything was shattered. Who can you still trust, and in what kind of environment?" Shownieuws presenter Bart Ettekoven: "Fortunately, Pierre didn’t keep it a secret." P.R.: "My father once found me crying in bed, and I shared it with him right then and there. My parents immediately asked, 'How can we help you?' and together we found an excellent therapist who was able to support me tremendously. "For instance, I never get angry—it’s just not in my nature. It wasn’t until I was in therapy—only five years ago—that I was finally able to express that anger. I was in my forties, looking back at that moment... phew... and I was finally able to feel the emotion I should have felt back then." B.E.: "By talking about this painful experience, he hopes to encourage others to speak up as well." P.R.: "I believe everyone can find someone they feel comfortable turning to—someone with whom they can share their story!" D.B.: "Very candid! What isn’t entirely clear here is that this concerns the abuse of a boy—who was 16 years old at the time—by an older woman." B.E.: "She was a friend of his, someone in whose presence he felt safe." D.B.: "The fact that a woman could perpetrate such an act against a male is an under-discussed topic." J.V.: "I think he speaks about it with a great deal of respect; after all, if something like this truly haunts you, you could easily wish for that woman to be strung up from the highest tree." "Pierre even remarks about himself: 'Perhaps, back then, I gave her the impression that it was okay for her to touch me." B.E.: "Jon van Eerd immediately counters this, asserting that she is the perpetrator and that he should not blame himself. "It is quite remarkable to invite two men for a conversation, only to discover that both have experienced the exact same thing—in Jon’s case, involving the friars." D.B.: "What could they—let me look it up—what could "Navenant" have been thinking? What is this?!" Julia van Reyendam: "Perhaps it happens much more often, but because it’s never discussed, it remains unknown." B.E.: "Pierre brought it up, and then JON mentioned that he had experienced the same thing—with priests." "That woman had said to Pierre, "But you had an erection at the time, didn't you? So, surely you must have enjoyed it?" Phew—and this to a 16-year-old!" J.V.: "You can see Pierre coming out of his shell more and more. He used to be the man behind the scenes, but he’s appearing in front of the camera—taking center stage—with increasing frequency. "Recently, in that Nieuwsuur interview, he shared that he needed therapy at a young age due to the responsibilities of his work; he felt as though he had to act as a father figure to his own father within the business world. And now, this. "I find it truly moving. We’re all familiar with Rieu’s multi-million-euro empire, but beneath that, it’s a close- knit family with a history—and scars—of their own. It’s beautiful how they are now bringing this out into the open. It’s incredibly important that he’s doing this, and it’s also very courageous!"
